Introduction

The Special Education Center was established in 2011 at Palestine Ahliya University in order to provide appropriate training for professionals, teachers, educators, parents and those working in the special needs sector  to provide them with the skills necessary for their work.
It is worth mentioning that the importance of having an academic center targeted for special education in Palestinian universities is great as there is a demonstrated shortage  of qualified people in this field, and has thus become one of the most urgent needs in Palestinian society, based on the general recommendations of the national strategy for teacher qualifications .

Objectives

  1. Organizing and delivering training courses in the field of care and rehabilitation for people with special needs ,targeting teachers, trainers, educators, specialists and concerned families.
  2. Contributing to the activation of educational programs for people with special needs through the preparation of various activities.
  3. Disseminating and developing public awareness of people with special needs and their dimensions, with emphasis on the importance of early detection of various disabilities
  4. Defending the rights of people with disabilities in Palestine and empowering them
  5. Organizing competitions and cultural and recreational programs for people with special needs
  6. Issuing bulletins, publications and periodicals covering various areas of disability
  7. Preparing research and studies on people with special needs in cooperation with relevant international and local societies and institutions.
  8. Organizing and holding seminars, conferences and exhibitions related to people with special needs in Palestine.
  9. Establishing a computer center for people with special needs.
  10. Exchanging experiences and cooperation with institutions, associations, cultural centers and local, regional and international academies to support the objectives of the Association.

  12. Transforming the University into an institution for the integration of people with special needs so as to provide new opportunities for university study for all social groups.
