Palestine Ahliya University Opens Psychological Debriefing Tent on Campus

Palestine Ahliya University has opened a psychological debriefing tent in the university’s courtyard. This was done by organizing a special day of interactive activities, attended by Mr. Khaled Shana’a, the President Assistant for Community Development and Projects, Mr. Jiries Abu Ghannam, the President Assistant for International and Public Relations Affairs, Mrs. Reem Amarna, the Health Program Manager at the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Mahmoud Breigith and Dr. Suhail Aqabneh, and Mrs. Sabreen Obeid Allah from the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, along with a large number of university staff, students, and partners.

The event commenced with a welcoming speech by the coordinator of the Youth Friendly Health Center, Razan Shana’a, followed by speeches from project partners. They emphasized the importance of collaboration and shed light on various aspects of physical and mental health. This was achieved by enhancing services provided to the university students and replacing the traditional clinic concept with an advanced and youth-friendly health center. The center offers a variety of services and serves as an incubator for youth ideas and contributions through creative initiatives. Following this, a dialogue session was led by Mr. Wajdi Al-Ja’fari, the director of the Alumni Unit at the university, with a group of students who spearheaded this initiative. The session included informative and entertaining activities with the Palestinian artist Montamy Abu Arab, which included educational questions and various prizes. Additionally, there were recreational activities like table tennis, tug-of-war rope, chess, and expressive painting, and more.

On the other hand, Dr. Imad Al-Zeer, the President of Palestine Ahliya University, welcomed the representatives of medical relief and the United Nations Population Fund and honored them. Dr. Imad expressed his admiration for what has been accomplished so far through the cooperation between the three parties, emphasizing the importance of keeping up with global developments, as well as the importance of future interventions being a response to the actual needs of students and the local community. He expressed the university’s readiness to continue cooperation within this framework.

It is worth mentioning that the program for mental and reproductive health has been implemented at Palestine Ahliya University for more than two years in partnership with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society and the United Nations Population Fund through the Youth Friendly Health Center at the university, with the support of the Community Development and Continuing Education Institute, the alumni unit, and the Student Affairs Deanship. Its activities will continue in the coming years.
